Dua for Going Down the Stairs – Meaning, Benefits, and Spiritual Importance
Introduction:
In Islam, every small action can become an act of worship when it begins with the remembrance of Allah. Even something as simple as going down the stairs has a Sunnah (Prophetic) etiquette and dua. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught Muslims to remember Allah when going up or down in elevation. This beautiful habit helps us stay mindful, humble, and spiritually connected throughout our daily movements.
The Sunnah Dua for Going Down the Stairs
When descending or going down a slope, stairs, or any lower place, the Prophet ﷺ recommended saying:
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ
SubhanAllah — Glory be to Allah.
Hadith Reference:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When you ascend, say Allahu Akbar, and when you descend, say SubhanAllah.”
— (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2994)
