Dua Before Going Up

Benefits of Reading Dua Before Going Up
-
Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr):
Saying a dua before going up helps you remember Allah at every moment. It fulfills the Quranic command:
“Remember Allah much, that you may be successful.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah 62:10) -
Protection from Pride:
When a person rises — physically or socially — there’s a chance of arrogance entering the heart. Reading a dua keeps humility alive and reminds us that every rise is by Allah’s will. -
Balance Between Success and Gratitude:
The dua helps you remain grateful for the ability to ascend, reminding you that blessings should increase your shukr (thankfulness), not your ego. -
Safety and Ease:
The Prophet ﷺ taught us to say “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) when going uphill or upward. This invocation brings divine ease, strength, and protection during the ascent. -
Spiritual and Physical Protection:
Just as we seek safety while traveling, dua before going up acts as a shield from unseen harm, fatigue, or accidents. -
Strengthening Faith (Iman):
Regularly reciting dua connects your daily actions to your faith. Even small acts like going upstairs become moments of worship. -
Gaining Barakah (Blessings):
When you begin any action with the remembrance of Allah, it brings barakah (divine blessings) and success to that task. -
Calms the Heart:
Dua gives a sense of peace, reminding you that Allah is in control of every step you take—literally and spiritually.
Example of the Dua When Going Up
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“When you ascend, say Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and when you descend, say SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah).”
— (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2994)
Dua (short version):
اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ
Allahu Akbar — Allah is the Greatest.
